Anatomy of a Strong Password

Small habits that dramatically reduce the risk of an account takeover.

✓ Do

  • Use at least 12–16 characters
  • Prefer a passphrase of 3–4 random words
  • Use a unique password for every account
  • Store them in a reputable password manager
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA)

✕ Don’t

  • Reuse the same password across sites
  • Use names, birthdays or “Password123!”
  • Share passwords by email or chat
  • Write them on sticky notes or in notes apps
  • Rely on simple swaps like P@ssw0rd
A passphrase likecorrect-harbor-violin-92is far stronger — and easier to remember — than P@ss1.
