About the standard

The world’s OH&S management framework — built for prevention.

ISO 45001:2018 replaced OHSAS 18001 with a tougher, more participatory standard. It requires real worker consultation, leadership accountability, and a continuous improvement cycle that survives turnover, audits, and incidents.

Worker-led safety culture

Worker participation isn’t optional — ISO 45001 requires consultation on hazards, risks, and controls at every level.

Prevent, don’t react

Systematic hazard identification and the hierarchy of controls replace incident-driven safety with proactive risk management.

Continual improvement, audit-ready

PDCA cycle, internal audits, and management review built into the standard — ready for certification when you are.

FAQ

Common questions.

We have OHSAS 18001 — do we need to retrain for ISO 45001?
Yes. While ISO 45001 covers similar ground to OHSAS 18001, it introduces significant new requirements — particularly around worker participation and consultation, context and interested parties, and leadership commitment. We offer a focused transition course for teams already certified to OHSAS 18001.
Is ISO 45001 mandatory in Australia and New Zealand?
ISO 45001 is not legally mandated, but OH&S legislation in Australia (Model WHS Laws) and New Zealand (Health and Safety at Work Act 2015) requires organisations to have systematic approaches to managing workplace hazards. Many tenders and procurement processes now require ISO 45001 certification or equivalent.
Can ISO 45001 be integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001?
Yes — ISO 45001 uses the same High Level Structure as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Many organisations implement all three as an Integrated Management System (IMS) with shared governance, documentation, and audit programmes. Cianaa offers integrated training that covers all three standards.
How does worker participation work in ISO 45001?
ISO 45001 places significantly more emphasis on worker participation and consultation than OHSAS 18001 did. Workers must be consulted on hazard identification, risk assessment, and control determination — and must be able to report hazards and concerns without fear of retaliation. Our training covers consultation mechanisms, representative roles, and documentation requirements.
What’s the cost of ISO 45001 training?
Pricing depends on tier, format, and group size. Foundation courses start from a per-seat rate for public cohorts; on-site training is priced per cohort. Contact us with your team size and target dates for a tailored quote — usually returned within one business day.
Do you offer training combined with ISO 14001 or 9001?
Yes. Combined Integrated Management System (IMS) training covers ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 together — ideal for HSEQ teams. We can also bundle two of the three standards if that fits your scope better.
How do we book a private on-site course?
Send us your preferred dates, location, and participant count via the enquiry form. We confirm trainer availability, scope the content to your industry, and provide a fixed-fee proposal — typically within two business days.
